Seán Laoide-Kemp is a freelance photographer who completed his studies on the BA (Hons) Photography programme at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dún Laoghaire (IADT), graduating with First Class Honours. He recently completed a practice-led Masters by Research course in IADT.

Highly influenced by Chloe Dewe Mathews and her work Shot at Dawn, Seán practices mainly in the genre of Aftermath Photography (the photographing of dark events after they have taken place). This particular genre joins together two of his great passions in life: history and photography. An example of this union can be seen in his ongoing project, Landscape as Witness, which aims to document the constructions built as part of the Public Works Scheme during the Great Famine (1845-52) in North Clare, Ireland. The project will consist of images taken of these constructions, accompanied by oral history and ethnographic accounts.

Although shooting using a digital camera for most of his early photographic life, he has recently converted to the use of a medium format camera for his artistic work. This was due to the slower process of film in general, as well as the higher quality images that can be produced through the format and equipment used.

Using Aftermath Photography, Seán Laoide-Kemp hopes to bring forgotten moments/events to light and to represent them.
